National Center for Protein Science Shanghai (NCPSS) originated from the National Facility for Protein Science Shanghai (NFPSS) project, which was approved by the National Development and Reform Committee (NDRC) in 2008. The project officially commenced in Dec. 2010 and took 3 years to complete. The total investment of USD $120 million covers the construction and phase I equipment procurement along with the land subsidized locally by Shanghai Municipal Government.
NCPSS is located in the center of Zhangjiang Innopark, Pudong District with a total floor area of 33,391 square meters. NCPSS has 2 campuses: the main campus on Haike Road and the second campus housing the Beamlines in the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF), located 1.5 kilometers away from the main campus.
The Center is engaged in basic research in life science and provides superb service for all users. Currently, our in-house scientists are focusing the following areas of research: decoding and maintenance of genetic information, biological processes across membrane, Non-coding RNA and method development for supramolecules studies.
The Center is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for life science study. We welcome international academic exchange, research collaboration and cooperation in graduate education programs. We pay special attention to training the next generation of researchers via the graduate education in MS, PhD and the postdoctoral programs, which are open to applicants throughout China and from around the world.
It has been my and many others' long-cherished dream to establish a national research center that serves as the centralized base for life science in China. NCPSS makes the dream become reality. Nevertheless, we still have various issues to solve, I would like to appreciate your continuous support.
